H.E Mr. George Mkondiwa, Malawi High Commissioner to India being welcomed on 29 November 2017 by Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of Sulabh International, an India-based social service organization that works to promote human rights, environmental sanitation, non-conventional sources of energy, waste management and social reforms through education

Sulabh International Social Service Organization is a non-profit voluntary social organisation founded in 1970 by Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, based on Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology of emancipation of low caste peasant Indians who were referred to as scavengers/ untouchables. The Sulabh approach has five distinct stages, namely: liberation; rehabilitation; vocational training; proper education of next generation; and social elevation.

Over the years, Sulabh has been advocating for the removal of this undesirable untouchability and social discrimination against the low caste Indians who were condemned to clean and carry human excreta, manually. To-date Sulabh is known for achieving cost-effective sanitation, liberation of scavengers, social transformation of society, prevention of environmental pollution and development of non-conventional sources of energy.

After the visit, the Malawi High Commission is working out modalities to engage Sulabh and to work together with institutions in Malawi for the benefit of Malawi.
