H.E Dr. Perks M. Ligoya, Malawi High Commissioner to India was the guest of honour at the at the Pulses Conclave 2014 held in Goa from 19 o 21 February where he performed the official inauguration of the pulses exhibition mounted at the conference. The three-day event was organised by the India Pulses and Grains Association. High profile dignitaries that attended the Conclave included: Shri Suresh Prabhu, former Union Minister; Hon. Lyle Stewart, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Saskatchewan, Canada; Mr. Hakan Bahceci, President, CICILS (Global Confederation); H.E Dr. Perks M. Ligoya, Malawi High Commissioner to India; Mr. Pravin Dongre, Chairman, India Pulses and Grains Association and Mr. Bimal Kothari, Vice-Chairman, India Pulses and Grains Association . Over 800 delegates from India and across 24 countries including Australia, USA, Canada, Russia, Spain, Pakistan, Kenya, Myanmar to name but a few, participated in the Conclave.
The Conclave was characterised by plenary sessions, business to business meeting and an exhibition. At the Conclave a number of papers on price outlook, crop estimations, role of research institutions and policy issues were presented by eminent experts. Panel discussions also focused on empowering delegates with knowledge related to pulses production, imports and processing of trade documentation.
A key highlight of the Conclave was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA) and the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) to work in collaboration for purposes of removing bottlenecks in pulses trade including lifting of trading restrictions through continuous dialogue with regulators and policymakers,
