Malawi and India to enhance cooperation in Agriculture |

His Excellency Dr. Perks Ligoya, Malawi High Commissioner to India held fruitful discussions with officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation on 23 April 2014 at the Ministry of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. In the talks, which were also attended by the Director responsible for East and Southern Africa, Mr. Mahaveer Singhvi, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, the Malawi envoy informed the Government of India officials that Malawi as an agricultural country would like to embark on farm mechanisation with a view to boosting agriculture production. He said he was looking forward to learn from India's best practices in this field.

In his remarks, Mr. Avinash Srivastava, Additional Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Mechanisation and Technology Division, informed the Malawi envoy that the Ministry of Agriculture was ready to share with Malawi expertise in farm mechanisation. He said the Government of India was committed to support Malawi's efforts to attain food security through improved farm mechanisation. |
The Government of the Republic of Malawi and the Government of the Republic of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the fields of Agriculture and Allied Sectors, in January 2010. Through this MOU, the Government of Malawi would like to enhance agricultural production by promoting use of power tillers and small tractors.
