Invitation to the Malawi Investment Forum 29th and 30th June, 2015

The Ministry of Industry and Trade, Government of Malawi in Collaboration with the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC) is organising a Malawi Investment Forum to be held in Lilongwe, Malawi from 29 and 30 of June, 2015.

The forum will offer a networking environment of over 300 participants comprising of foreign and local investors, high level government officials and development partners with the objective of achieving both local and international interest in Malawi, in terms of direct investment, joint ventures, Public-Private Partnerships, among others. At this same forum, Government will market its project opportunities for either Public-Private Partners or 100% concessionaires (Some of the projects are listed in the compendium). Furthermore, more incentives are available for investment opportunities and joint venture projects for prospective investors in Malawi.

The forum will focus on six core sectors, vis:

  • Agriculture and Agro-processing,
  • Tourism,
  • Manufacturing,
  • Energy,
  • Infrastructure,
  • and Financial Services

Tentatively the highlights of the two-day forum are as follows:

·        Opening 08:00 am – 10:30 am
·         Technical presentations and discussions: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm
·         Plenary sessions for (six sectors) will run concurrently 14:00 pm – 15:30 pm
·         Plenary networking sessions  15:30 pm - 16:30 pm
·         Cocktail/networking session 18:30 pm – 10:00 pm

 

END OF DAY 1

·        10-minute reports by plenary sessions and dialogue 8:30 am – 10:30 am
·        B2B match-making meetings 11:00 am – 16:30 pm
 

Please refer to MITC website www.mitc.mw, forum hyperlink for more information on the forum and for on-line registration details, which will be uploaded soon.  MITC have also contracted a logistical operator who will be in charge of all logistical activities pertaining to the event, including but not limited to provision of tourist safari packages for the days following the event.   MITC will soon be uploading their details on the MITC website details for you to view the tourist packages offered and other logistical preparations for the forum.  We will be providing proper updates as we go along.

You may wish to know that Malawi is a safe country and was listed as number two safest countries in Africa after Botswana, on the world peace index in 2009. Government has put in place a number of measures aimed at promoting investment. Malawi is also a member of the Common market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) which offers a huge market for any prospective investor.
