   Malawi High Commissioner to India, H. E. Dr. Perks M. Ligoya, Presents His Credentials to the President    of India

His Excellency Dr. Perks M. Ligoya, on 9 May 2013, presented his Letters of Credence to President of India, His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Soon after presentation of the Credentials, His Excellency the President of India Shri Pranab Mukherji received in audience the Malawi envoy. In his remarks after the audience with the President of India, the Malawi envoy said, among other things, he discussed bilateral issues with the President. He also conveyed a goodwill message and fraternal greetings from Her Excellency President Dr. Joyce Banda to the President and people of India. He said,


“Her Excellency President Dr. Joyce Banda is committed to ensuring that Malawi maintains cordial diplomatic relations with India for the mutual benefit of the peoples of the two countries. Her Excellency the President also sends a message of goodwill to her counterpart, His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of the Republic of India and the people of India. She also congratulates him for re-opening the High Commission of India in Lilongwe, a development which is now facilitating bilateral cooperation between Malawi and India”

His Excellency Dr. Ligoya further briefed the President of India on great achievements Malawi was making under the able and foresighted leadership of Her Excellency President Dr. Joyce Banda, in good political governance and economic recovery. He reiterated that Malawi will continue to partner with India in various sectors of development including financial cooperation under EXIM Bank, agriculture and food security, rural development, mining, health, education and energy as key priorities among others.

Finally, His Excellency Dr. Ligoya then thanked Her Excellency President Dr. Joyce Banda for the honour, trust and responsibility to represent her as her envoy and the people of Malawi in India. He pledged that he will continue to strengthen and deepen the cordial bilateral relations currently existing between the two countries.

In response, His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee, President of the Republic of India commended Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, President of the Republic of Malawi for her efforts to promote economic growth. He added that the Government of India was committed to continue partnering with Malawi in all areas of economic development.

Before his appointment as Malawi High Commissioner to India, Dr. Perks M. Ligoya was Governor and Chairman of the Board of the Reserve Bank of Malawi. He is the third High Commissioner of the Republic of Malawi to India, following the establishment of a resident diplomatic mission in March, 2007. Diplomatic relations between Malawi and India date back to 1964 at the time of independence obtained from Britain.
