
Malawi and India captains of industry agreed to boost trade and investment between the two countries at a business forum held at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe on 18 July 2013. The Indian business delegation led by Mr. Ambuj Chaturvedi, was in Malawi for a three day trade and investment Mission from 17 to 20 July 2013. The main objective of the forum was to discuss ways of enhancing trade between the two countries. The forum was attended by over one hundred business persons from various companies from Malawi and Indian.
The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Hon. Sam Ganda gave a key note speech and presided over the forum. Also gracing the occasion were: High Commissioners of Malawi and India, His Excellency, Dr. Perks Logoya; and His Excellency Shri Vanlalhuma; the Secretary for Industry and Trade, Mr. Nebert Nyirenda; the Chief Executive of Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), Mr. Clement Kumbemba; and officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and MITC.

Speaking when opening the forum, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Sam Ganda said Malawi has vast business opportunities open to foreign investors in areas such as; mining, tourism and energy. Hon Ganda also challenged exporters in the country to take advantage of the bilateral trade cooperation between the two countries by increasing exports to India.
In his remarks Malawi’s High Commissioner to India, H.E. Dr Perks Ligoya said most Indian business people have shown interest to do business in Malawi in several sectors and called on Malawians to take advantage of this interest to export more pulses to India, which he said were in high demand.
The forum was jointly organised by the Malawi High Commission in India and the Federation for Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) in collaboration with the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Malawi.
