Malawi High Commission in India commemorates 49th Independence Anniversary Celebrations

The Malawi High Commission to India H.E. Dr. Perks Ligoya hailed the cordial relations that exist between Malawi and India. The Envoy was speaking at a reception and dinner at Hyatt Hotel which he hosted to celebrate the  49th Independence Anniversary. The Guest of honour at the celebrations was Hon Tariq Anwar, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries. Also gracing the occasion was Mrs. Hawa Ndilowe, Chief Secretary. Among the invited Guests were Heads of Mission and diplomats based in New Delhi, captains of industry and commerce and government officials.


Speaking at the reception, the High Commissioner welcomed and thanked all the invited guests for attending the National day in their large numbers. He then went on to convey the message addressed to all Malawians by the President of Malawi, Her Excellency Dr. Joyce at the National Day of Worship held at Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe, Malawi. In the message, the President urged Malawians to stand united and ensure the success of the nation. In her speech, Dr. Joyce Banda said political differences should not divide Malawians. The President, therefore, commended religious and political leaders as well as Non-governmental Organizations and the civil society for their support in the face of various challenges. She said all Malawians must stand together for the benefit of the country. The President thanked God for guiding her as she led the nation. She also praised God for instilling in her a spirit of forgiveness and tolerance. President Joyce Banda said she was open when it came to taking indira_gandhiadvice from others. The prayers under the theme, "Towards Peace, Prosperity and Breakthroughs" were in commemoration of 49 years of independence.


The High Commissioner reiterated his conviction that the already cordial bilateral relations existing between Malawi and India would continue to flourish. The High Commissioner then thanked all the well-wishers who had contributed financially towards the cost of organizing the National Day. In a special way he thanked Apollo International, Lucky Exports, Export Trading Group (ETG) of Malawi and Dhunseri Petrochem & Tea Ltd.

At the reception invited guests were treated to beverages and food including, Malawian dishes. To climax it all, a variety of music including, local Malawi numbers were played to the delight of the dancing patrons.
