Often dubbed as ‘the capital of the North,’ Mzuzu is located at about an hours drive to some of the best beaches of Lake Malawi at Nkhatabay and Chintcheche.
Mzuzu is a famous stop over on the north south route. It is also a jump off point for Vwaza Wildlife Reserve, Viphya plateau, Vizara rubber plantations, and Chikangawa forest, a haven for bird watchers as well as nature lovers, Nyika National Park and the Cultural and Museum Centre Karonga (CMCK Museum) in Karonga District the home of Malawisaurus.
The museum in MPICO building along Orton Chirwa Highway has good displays on the history of African and European peoples in the Northern Region, and a section on the indigenous plants and Wildlife.
